Ah Yes, she hated it. It was a Mabel Lucy Atwell doll? She didn't like it because her dad said she was the image of it, hence the picture! Cheers, Pippa x

Oh yes Mabel Lucy Atwell, I think I had some books with some illustrations by her?

I never met her, but Mabel Lucy Atwell lived in Fowey when I was a child.  My father was manager of W H Smith and knew her son.  He sent my MLA annual to be autographed by her.  She didn't like the quality of the painting on the front page so touched it up with her paints and signed it.

I still have it nearly 50 years on and is one of my prized possessions.

I agree the doll is a bit scary though
