How up to date are these names?

I have been searching on LDS site for a few details and found a name linked to someone from our tree.

I was wondering how you found out how long the submitter's name has been on there. Is the site updated regularly or is it a case of once its on there it stays regardless?

I am just debating whether to send a letter with descendant report to the address given.

I think that if you click on the "database" link for an individual entry, it shows when the info was updated. Don't know how to find out anything else though.

Hi Carol, get scribbling! nothing ventured, nothing gained

I wrote to someone who had their name and address on the site and it proved to be very productive.

I have just had a look through the Pedigree File help topics on the LDS website and they rely on the contributor to update their details, address etc. 

I found this as well...
"Here is the current release date and version number for the FamilySearch Internet Genealogy Service:

Release date: 23 October 2002

Version: 2.5.0 "

Well my letter paid off - I got a phone call today and I am phoning him tonight to check through all the detaills we have between us. Turns out he is hubby's 3rd cousin!

So definitely worth sending a letter wasn't it?

Might just search through the phone books for each area I need to look in and send a few more.

I did it years ago but got no respronse but things might have changed a bit now
