Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries
« on: Wednesday 24 May 06 16:51 BST (UK) »
Hello
Ive traced my tree with a lot of help back to 1690's ! However names are great but I would love to know what they looked like ?? Obviously dont have any photos going back that far but is there somewhere on the internet where I can see what my ancestors may have wore, how they looked etc ? Weve all seen Charles ii etc but what about the common man ?

Think "Baldrick"!   ;D

Seriously though, this is a question I've been wondering about.

Any good (free) websites out there with images of historical costume?

Dave

Hi

There are a growing number of historical re-enactment societies out there who put a lot of time and effort into researching that sort of thing - try googleing something like

18th century living history - I came up with this one

http://blh.homestead.com/Clothing.html

for earlier stuff The tudor group is one of the best and most accurate societies of any period

Hi, if you look in the common room, Gadget has started a topic

Social History Sources - General UK (*)

She has put together a list of great links that can be used for researching different eras and there is a link on there about fashion.

Good luck

Fiona
