Photo restoration please!
« on: Wednesday 24 May 06 18:20 BST (UK) »
Hi all

Could anyone do me a favour and restore this photo of a Great Aunt? It's pretty beaten up and it would be great if you could do anything with it!

 Best

Hi there

I'm afraid I don't know, I have no knowledge of badges or the like. Do you have any more information about this badge? I could probably tell you how likely it is that it was hers if you can give me a description of what it was for etc.

She is 89 years old now and lives far away, but the next time I speak to her on the phone, I'll ask her.

Best

At a quick guess i would say the Royal Fusiliers.
I've got one in the drawer somewhere. I'll have to dig it out.
I seem to remember the 14/18th badge is very like it,

The badge on her coat is indeed a military cap badge by the look of it.
It shows the distinctive bugle of a light infantry regiment, and the letters DLI are a giveaway. It's the Durham Light Infantry.

See the badge about 10 rows down on this page

Thankyou very much for your research, you have enabled me to realise that it is another Great Aunt, the one who I thought it was was her sister. The lady in the photo passed away recently so I'll ask Grandad if she was a member of that organisation.

Can anyone do a restoration job, by any chance?

Thankyou for your help.

Sorry to have waylaid your original request....I've downloaded it and will give it a go... ;D

On second glance the Badge appears to be the Durham Light Infantry....

Hi Neil,
Spot on mate and a very interesting site. I may be wrong but i think
a lot of units had the bugle as part of the badge. From what you say maybe
all were the light infantry.

Rachael,
Patience, you only posted it at  18:20 and its only 21:45.
Do you realise how long it can take to do a decent job. Just because nobody
has replied doesn't mean that nobody is working on your request.

Sorry! I didn't mean to sound demanding  :'(.

I know how long it can take, I do colourising myself, I was just slightly afaraid it may turn into a find the badge thread instead (not that that's a bad thing, indeed it has proved very useful) I was just trying to remind people of the purpose of the thread.

I'm very sorry if I sounded rude!
