Hi Markn

I have found a family of Norris's where the age fits for William in 1841

Thomas 60 Ag Lab
Ann 60
Sarah 26
David 23 Lab
William 4
Luke 2
Holts Yard Watford

If this is him I would imagine Sarah is his mother

What do you think ???

Hi, That is him, I did wonder whether Sarah was his mother. She never got married  and i just wondering how to prove that she was his mother. I also cant find his birth, although i know its around 1837 as it what the census says. I do undertsnad that sometimes this may not be the correct year.I just cant seem to find a record. Thank you for looking

The 1841 Census indicates that he probably reached the age of 4 on his last birthday.  So he will have been born too early for state registration.

You will have to look for church records.  I think (from memory - you had better check) that Holts Yard was in the centre of Watford off the High Street.  So there may be a number of churches to choose from.

Hi Mark,

I searched the Watford Parish Records at HALS and found two consecutive baptism entries for 29th January 1836 viz   ...
William Norris (Bn.27Nov1835) s/o William & Elizabeth Labourer
William Norris s/o Henry & Sarah  Butcher
To help sort out this mess, Henry & Sarah had further children, Marrianne(?) 1837 and Henry 1839.

Regards   ...   Peter
