trying to trace my grandmothers family V.HARD! :)
she was born in enniscorthy county home in 1923
birth cert has mothers name MARGARET STAFFORD (servant)
she was adopted 2 years later by margarets brother PETER STAFFORD
and his wife catherine,they lived in wales glamorgan and had recently lost thier 4 year old daughter in a fire also called MARGARET they have an older son JAMES.
have come up with a census return for adamstown 1901
witch lists a JAMES STAFFORD as head witch would be correct wife BRIDGET, a MARGARET stafford daughter age 16,a PETER STAFFORD age 15 and a MATHEW STAFFORD age 10 who was never mentioned.
how can i find out if this is the right family??? ???PLEASE HELP!

Hiya redspookhunter,

I think you may have the right family. If Margaret Stafford (your great grandmother) did not die .. one possible reason for your grandmother being adopted then I think your grandmother was born before your great grandmother married. This would account for her brother adopting the child .. it was the practice for either parents or a sibling to adopt in such instances. If you could find a Margaret Stafford marriage, in or near Enniscorthy, around 1925 you might just get a little bit more information.

Mary Stafford b. 1819 Wexford
Martin Stafford b. 1859 Wexford
Mary Stafford b. 1859 Wexford   Married Edward O'Brien Wexfoed Sailor ( moved to Liverpool )
