hi all,

can anybody recall the verse of a poem written by a young ww2 spitfire pilot, John Gillespie Magee Jr, who was killed in an accident in 1941, it begins with the words,

Oh!  I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,

Being a ww2 aircraft enthustiast, I have heard this before but I cant remember where, It is such a beautiful poem,

Hi Pete
Pilot Officer John Gillespie Magee, he is buried in the graveyard at Scopwick Lincolnshire, part of the poem is on his headstone. If you google for the Village of Metheringham in Lincolnshire there is a photo of his grave and the poem on the same page. Lots of people go there to look at his grave and of others who died in the second world war.
