Hi Collette
if my memory serves me right 49 Limekiln is uninhabited in 1901, I did an address search on 1901 census site and pasted RG no. into ancestry to come up with that result.

We seem to be clutching at straws now.  I suppose there was no other way to show this address 2h/3c between 28 and 30 Marlborough St how else could they descibe where they lived?

Oddly the phrase deceased isnt on the birth cert issued 1915 and the marriage cert for my nana in 1931 shows Thomas Richard Owens not John, again it doesnt say deceased yet my grandads father says deceased for his entry on the 1931 marriage cert.

I appreciate your comments that Mary could have married before but thats an extreme longshot at 19 I think although possible.

Liverpool RO researcher said widow and I have asked for that part of the register, it hasnt arrived yet, hope he sends it!

You can appreciate the problem  on this as my nana died mid 1960s so I never asked her, I do have some old family tree notes somewhere so Im going to dig them out and see what they say (from 30 yrs ago when I strated doing my tree stuff).

Photos much appreciated and very clear as to what the area looked like, thanks to both.
regards Gareth

Oh yes Collette, my uncle says there is also a Nana Barnes that fits into all this but Ive never worked out that one.  Barnes/Owens/Davies living together then circa 1901????  Sadly my mum is 73 and seriously ill so I cant get any more out info of her and I hardly see my uncle who for some reason doesnt like talking fam hist although I do have a 100 page research project on his family!!!!!  How many people would grab at that?

Hi Gareth you seem to have been doing this forever god help you..

Do you think that he had to marry Mary Davies because she was pregnant OR did she just pretend to be married for keeping up appearences so to speak ..
Maybe they married untill much later on, but you did say on one creed entry Mary was down as a widow YES ??
But not the one you sent me...

Seems funny theres a Mary Honora Farrell and a Richard Owens marriage  Sept 1909.. two of the names you are researching and a month after your Gran was born..

Its trying to piece the puzzle together though..

Mary was formaly Davies on your Grans birth cert but her mother was possiblily a Farrell or as you recon Mary Farrell was Johns mother..

Need to write this all down again and try work it out

Gareth just thourght i would make sure your Gran was the only child..
Does mum have any sisters or brother you could ask questions of..

This John and Thomas issue is causing havoc isnt it it could just be the priest or registrar misheard the fathers name.. but when at the birth reg or the marriage reg thats the question..

Thing thats bugging me is Free BMD has completed all Marriages 1901-1909 these are the same as the GRO so there should be a marriage there even under a soundex theres still nothing..

And family law says Mary and John went to Canada so did Gran also go with them

Hi Colette
Yes it is, I think that my nana never saw her father, her mother Mary was a widow when she was born at least thats proved by the Liverpool RO researcher (once I have the actual document).

As far as I know the Owens and Davies families were Welsh and not of Canadian origin, I accept that Halifax explosion was 1917 I had seen a great website on it, maybe the stories got mixed up and it was Halifax England I wondered.

If the 1901 is correct then John Owens (10) had a brother Owen Owens (7) and there are several options on that name too.  1911 census looks good so long as I live that long till 2011 ha ha even that wont answer all the questions though.

Hi Gareth what does the birth cert say does it mention Mary being a widow..

I carnt see there being any other info that what you have got in your creed register saying wife of etc and widow.
As you have the entire page just like mine for my father in law.

Sometimes it doesnt mention if a father in deceased or not it depends on what the mother said when she registered the birth..
If the family you found in Marlborough St is yours none of them are welsh... but maybe the missing dad was.

Maybe John Richard went to work in Wales and then met Mary there, could be he went to his fathers family..

Then brought her back to Liverpool were sadley he died and she was left with his mum.
His mum may not have actualy married Mr Farrell just lived with him anything was better than nothing back in those days food on the table was all that mattered and she was widowed.
