JEFFERY Family - Help please
« on: Sunday 28 May 06 19:44 BST (UK) »
I am really clutching at straws, I have been trying to find something definite on this part of my family for 2 years without success  :(

I have found out from a possible 1901 census entry that my Great Grandfather was born in Bridport Dorset.  :-\

Thomas Jeffery c1867 Bridport

William Jeffery c 1822 Bridport (Thomas's Father)

This is all I know about the Bridport part the rest of the information I have which is very limited is when they are in Devon.  ???

Any help would be appreciated  :-*

Have you tried the Dorset OPC (online parish clerk) site?  Volunteers are transcribing details from parish records.  You might find something there to guide you.

Good luck,

I've had a quick look at 1881 census; there is a Tom with a father William, both Ag Labs, living at Thorncombe, with mother Maria with 7 other children.

Could this be them?

I have seen the 1881 census and yes it could be them but I cannot confirm it yet.

I will try dorset-ancestors .com.

Thank you all for your help

Hi Christine....In the 1891 census William is living with Thomas and family but this time his birth place is down as Tavistock? Seems that Thomas moved around anyway even in the years his children were being born according to the census.....Tavistock, Exeter and Dole and wife coming from Brixham. I counldnt find any trace of a William hailing from Dorset in the years 51 or 61 and at the moment the only Thomas i can find born at right time is....

Thomas Jeffrey  Jan Feb Mar 1868 Bideford 5b 552
