Don't you just find...
« on: Monday 29 May 06 09:33 BST (UK) »
I've been very slow looking into my fathers side of the family as there is no one to ask about them, so brickwalls are common, not high ones, but big enough to frustrate.

I've made progress with his maternal side even finding his cousin in Australia via GR.

His paternal side is another matter, so I've ordered his fathers/my grandfathers birth certificate, due about 12th June, then low and behold  :o :o out pops my dads grandfathers name and occupation (which I know from a recently purchased marriage cert) on the 1901 census and now I've found my dads grandmothers name too!  ;D

Every time I order a certificate in desperation, I find the information I need before it turns up. At least it confirms the info I've found.

Sorry to burden you all with my delight  ;D , but no one is remotely interested at home, how sad it that!!!

Pipkim  ;D

Pipkim

Welcome to the club!!!!  My family take on this glazed expression as soon as I mention anything to do with FH.  I don't know why, it's their family too!!!

I think we have all experienced the desperation ordering that gets solved before the certificate arrives.  It's not quite so bad when you don't have to wait so long for the certificate to arrive.

It's the same in this household as well Pipkim - everyone looks at me as though I have just started speaking Swahili! - probably have and not realised

The only person who is as eager to hear things is my dad and as he lives 120 miles away, and I only see him and Mum once a fortnight during the summer season, I have to phone him everytime I find anything exciting. My 2nd cousin is also into Family History and we are working on that side of the family together but she lives in Liverpool.  That isn't too bad but the phone bill is now getting higher by the minute lol

Oh well maybe I will just keep putting my exciting finds on Rootschat to share with others

Exactly Kerry

Don't feel as though you are speaking a language no one else knows!

At least on here we all know what each of us is saying and can understand why we get excited over a "simple" name and date

I mentioned brickwall the other day at the dinner table and they all looked at me like 'what is she on?'
