Thomas Ash Evans - Royal Artillery?
« on: Monday 29 May 06 13:04 BST (UK) »
Hi all

Wonder if SKS can enlighten me about, THOMAS ASH EVANS, born 1912, West Ham?

I believe he may have been an Sergeant or RSM in the Royal Artillery and at sometime was stationed in Lancashire and North Weald, Essex.  If so, what Regiment could he have been with?

When did he enlist and when was he discharged?  It is possible that he was medically discharged.  Is there any way that I can find this out?

Many thanks.

Hi Annie

I am doing this research on behalf of my half sister.  She knows her father was in the Army at sometime, probably prior to 1943 when she was born.  Sh does have a photo of him in uniform, so I'll have to get her better half to scan it in and send it to me.

Thanks for the link too.  That will come in handy for other searches too.

A bit more info.

I have a photo of Thomas Ash Evans.  Seems like he wasn't a Sergeant or RSM, but a Lance Corporal, or equivilant.

The cap badge certainly looks like the Royal Artillery, but what are the collar badges?  Are they the regimental badges?  What is the Diamond on the sleeve?

MMMMM Tried to upload the image, but not being very successful! What am i doing wrong, folks?

Many thanks, Andrew.  Looks like it'll take a bit of time to search that lot and wonder if it'll throw anything up.

I would suggest that although it is not very clear in the photo that his badge has a 'free wheel' (rotatable) so may be RHA, also he's in SD and not BD and I don't know when it changed for the RHA.
