thanks iria..just been on that site and it says from 1601 to 1901 it was swedish owned and known as westphalia under swedish rule...i was under the impression this region of westphalia was known as helogoland...will check with berlin bob...he`s very good at these topics...regards...allan

Helgoland or Heligoland was once part of Germany, then Denmark, then Britain, and then Germany again.

I think Wismar was ceded to Sweden as part of the Peace [Treaty] of Westphalia (1648), after the 30 Years War in Germany, it wasn't itself part of Westphalia.

i know i`ll have to confirm my doubts,but it looks to me as iria has the right results for carl freidrich sacht and his father johann carl daniel sacht(schacht)...and it appears berlin bob is right regarding wismar being german.....it was swedish from 1648 until 1903....so it would appear carl and his father were born under swedish rule...not british in heligoland......this may have been a story fabricated to give the family an easier time in liverpool....so..i`m going to find them if possible on a swedish census....does anyone agree thats the way to go??...regards...allan
