George Hindhaugh
« on: Wednesday 31 May 06 23:39 BST (UK) »
Hello all,  If anyone can help with this it will make the world of difference to us.

I'm looking for my great grandfather George Hindhaugh.  He lived at Chester-le-Street at some point.  (I'll post in the Durham board too)

He died in the 1950's whilst staying with his daughter Christina (Chrissie, married name not known yet) in Isleworth.  ( I'd better put something in the London board too!)  Chrissie had 2 children.

George married Ellen and they had 3 children:-

William b. 1906
Robert b. 1908
Christina b. 1911

I also know George worked as a coal hewer.

Research so far says he is not:

George William Hindhaugh b. 1876 in Coal burn, Durham or
George Edward Hindhaugh b. 1881 Burnopfield, Durham

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated  :)

You could get Christina's birth certificate.  That would give Ellen's maiden name and make it easy to find the marriage and distinguish between the different George's.  The marriage would then give the father's name and you could find them in the census and work your way backwards.

Christina Hindhaugh 1911 June q Chester le St. 10a 630

We'll look into that and get back to you.  :)

Hopefully it will turn out well.

Hi Leaf,

You could search for his death on the complete indexes.
http://content.ancestry.co.uk/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=8966&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0
It would tell you his age at death and whether he had a 2nd initial.

Hi again,

I have checked deaths between 1951 and 1959 and the likeliest match I could see was this (you'd better have a 2nd look, of course)

March quarter 1954
Hindhaugh John G
age 67
Middlesex S 5f 1

Could he have been John George?

The 1901 census has a John George Hindhaugh at Gatesheed, birthplace Northumberland South (?)comb age 14, Colliery labourer.
(In case you think it's them, they are at RG12/4243 124 31 in 1891)

Hm. Not too sure anymore.
I can see a John George Hindaugh marrying at Gateshead in December quarter 1905 (right time) but none of the possible spouses is called Ellen  :-\
There's Margaret Kennedy or Mary Ann Sharkey

But then again, I can't see a George Hinhaugh marriage to an Ellen either!  :P

Have you checked out the following Georges?

from the 1901
George O. 36 b 1885 Alnwick, NBL
residence Long Houghton
living with
Addison 36 b 1865 Long Longhton (!)

George 34 b 1867 Norfd (!) Berwick
residence Middlesborough living with
Anne 32 b 1869 Norfd (!) Berwick

They may have been widowed and remarried? (Clutching at straws!)

Thank you everyone for your help so far.  We're working on the birth certificate link to get Ellen's maiden name.  The two George's suggested by Jan, neither of those is the one we're looking for.  I'm sure we'll find him eventually.  Once again thanks for the help, much appreciated.  :)

Hi

I have a George Hindhaugh b 1868 in Tanfield.  His parents were William Hindhaugh b 1838 in Long Horsley/Rothbury Northumberland and Elizabeth Carr b 1845 in Tweedmouth Northumberland.   On the 1891 census he is listed as Hendhaugh still living in Tanfield with Mam and Dad and is shown as a Theological Student.  His Grandfather was called Robert so that might tie in with the childrens names.

Cant find him anywhere on the 1901 census and searched for George 1868 +/-2 keyword Durham
