Service Records at Kew Look-Up Request
« on: Thursday 01 June 06 11:40 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for a kind soul that may be able to assist me in carrying out a little bit of research into my great grandfather's service records held at the National Archives in Kew.

His name was Christopher FORAN and he died on 19th July 1918 after his vessel, HMHT Justicia was torpedoed several times. He worked aboard this vessel as a store keeper.

His records should be found within the following files:

1913 to 1940 Fourth Register of Merchant Seaman's Service. Classifications BT 364. Register of Seaman, Combined Numerical Index (CR1, CR2, & CR10). Microfiche of these three index series are held in the following classes BT 348: Register of Seaman, Central Index, Numerical Series (CR2), BT 349: Register of Seaman, Central Index, Alphabetical Series (CR1) and BT 350: Register of Seaman,Special Index, Alphabetical Series (CR10).

Thanks in advance to anybody who can assist me with this search - it would be much appreciated.

PM me if you require any further information  ;)

I don't know if you have sorted this matter by now but if you haven't there is a

Tom Tulloch-Marshall who specialises in WW1 Military Research.

His website is btinternet.com/~prosearch.

He searched for a WW1 record for us at Kew and within about 10 days we had a CD with digital images on it.  Cost 40 pounds.

Thanks SueChris for the link. I'm still looking to obtain the information.

The link doesn't seem to work. Can you check it for me?

Thanks

Google for the researcher's name & it will give you a working link.

I can enter the site as follows
http://www.btinternet.com/~prosearch

or as Pauline says just enter a search under Tom Tulloch-Marshall which will bring it up too.

Good Luck
Sue
