Lock your own topic
« on: Friday 02 June 06 17:20 BST (UK) »
Hi out there
I have always had the impression that we as members cannot lock our own topic. It would not be in the best interest really as we might lose out at a later date on some info. We can add topic now closed? I had thought only the moderator could lock them,(or the copyright cops ;D ) I came across the first locked (not moved)  topic i have ever seen. So I am interested to find out why/how it was locked.

Hi Celia

You can lock a topic if you originated it.  You can also unlock it.  A Moderator can lock anyone's topic and unlock any topic, even if they did not lock it in the first place!

Sometimes people lock their threads by mistake!

Sometimes a thread will be locked by a Mod - but usually there will be a note of explanation and the originator will be consulted.

As you say, if a thread is locked, even if it is apparently complete, the originator might miss out on later posts.  For example a long-lost rellie might have the same ancestors and wish to make contact, or comment on what has been posted.

I hope that helps?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
