Nothing on the Notts FHS baptism index I'm afraid. Though it's not a complete index and, of course, the Basford registration district included parts of Derbyshire.....

Sorry it's not more positive. Heather

Heather -Thanks for trying . On the BMD site it did say Basford - Derbyshire - Nottinghamshire . Im in NSW havents a UK map here .Is Basford borderline
between counties ? Where are the parish records held ?? I am convinced hes the child of George Lunn
& Eliz.Watkinson .Any suggestions where to search next ??? [ they had just wed in Wakefield but she was from Brinsley .

Hi again :)

Basford is borderline and includes parishes from Notts and Derbyshire but, with the extra info you've given, I'm sure you're right.

No doubt you have the censuses, but for the benefit of other searchers he is listed as Watkinson in 1881 and living with grandmother Elizabeth. Then in 1891 he is Joseph W Lund born Brinsley, living with aunt Phebe Watkinson who married George Watson at Brinsley 25/12/1875. In 1871 Elizabeth, Phebe and Elizabeth junior are together in one household, so the evidence is compelling.

Brinsley baptisms haven't been indexed, but are available at the Nottinghamshire Archives. This is their website

http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/home/leisure/archives.htm

If no kind rootschatter is able to take a look for you when next they visit Archives, I'd suggest emailing them. Given your distance and the fact you can narrow down the time of birth, they may be able to help.

Hi

The actual registration is:

Oct - Dec 1872 Joseph Whatkinson Lunn Basford 7b 110

(The spelling of the names is as on the entry)

There are 2 ways forward:

1. Apply for the birth certificate - I appreciate you are not in the UK but this would be the way to know his parents (or at least the mother).

2. As the mother was from Brinsley she may have gone back to her mothers to have the child. Brinsley baptism records are not on the NFHS baptism CD. Basford registration district was huge but it did cover Brinsley. I will be going to the archive in the next month and I can look in Brinsley parish records for you. I cannot look in all the parish records for Basford district as it would take about a week. If this draws a blank then you will have to apply for the birth certificate to find out.

If you want more information about registration districts or geography of the area let me know.
