Greeting’s….Simon.

I can Confirm using my St Margaret’s Baptisms 1615. ~ 1921.Disk

That none of your names
were Baptised at St: Margaret’s Parish Church……

Now you need to check out other Churches :~

St: Marks.
St: Lukes.
St: Matthew’s.
And at a pinch. …. St: George’s.

which were within the Parish to the Mother Church of St: Margaret’s
at the years stated….
You can get these dates from the Index books ( Blue ones )
next to the fiche filling drawers…….

Hello Mike

Thanks for this information.  However perhaps I have confused you.

I don't live near Leicester (though my father's ancesters did). The quote I typed at the top of my topic was yours.

Would it be possible, when you are next at the Record Office, to have a look for us. We have quite a few Taylors b in Leicester

Thank you in anticipation

Simon

That's a offer I can't refuse Mike! However I think it may be a big ask because of the confusion over the surname. The details are as follows:

I'm looking for the birth of Sarah Ann Debrex (sometimes written as Deborex or Devereaux) abt 1825 in Leicester - I know her father was John Debrex. I also know there was a John Deborex (b1800) who married Dorothy Gadsby (1802) in 26 Dec 1820 at St Margarets and so I'm trying to confirm if they are the parents.

Any help appreciated

Sarah

Sarah,

Sorry to thread hyjack, but these are my realtions too :D
It is a very very confusing surname. I've lost count of the numbers of variations. I think it is actually supposed to be DEVEREUX.

I'm related through Harriet (b. abt 1831), daughter of John DEVEREUX and Dorothy Gadesby. Although i havent looked through this branch for a while, I have Dorothy's parents as Edward GADSBY and Dorothy TIMBRELL. But I havent been able to go back farther on John DEVEREUX due to the spelling issues.

PM me if you would like a link to my tree.

Kind Regards
Tracey

Greeting's Again Sarah....

If you let me know what your looking for
then I'll have a look for you I go to the Records Office most weeks now.

MIKE.

Hi Mike,

I hope you don't mind but I was also wondering that if you are going to the records office again anytime soon you might be able to look a marriage up for me from St Margarets:

4/04/1825 Thomas Currey and Sarah Atkins

I most interested to find out where Thomas was from if it is noted and whether there is any mention of either parents.

If you have time I would also be interested in another marriage:

25/12/1824 George Currey and Sarah Hudson also at St Margaret's.

Thomas Curry is my Grt Grt Grt Grandfather he was a stonemason and died of 'consumption' in 1851 in Lincoln. There are not too many Curry's in Leicester and notably his son Robert born c. 1836 (bap St George's) also a stonemason moved back to the Durham area, a hot-bed for the surname Curry.

George may have been a sibling of Thomas.

I would be grateful for your help, but understand if the lookup is not possible.

regards

Mark

Regarding possibility George & Thomas were Brothers

The only Currey / Curry Baptisms I could see were as follows

 St: Margaret’s Parish Church. Leicester.
CURREY   ( A Daughter)   George & Sarah       05-Feb   1830
CURREY   Harriet   George & Sarah       27-Jan   1836
CURREY   William   George & Sarah       13-Feb   1828
CURRIE   William   Thomas & Sarah        06-Oct   1826
CURRY   Edwin   Henry & Constance 04-May   1874

So...Do we have two different Surnames and therefore not brothers ?

Hope this is of some help to you……

MIKE ……

Mike,

I am indebted for your help. Thankyou very much.

I not sure what my next plan will be now, although I thought it may be the case, I was hoping Thomas Curry was of another parish but at least I can now probably check the baptism records to see if he was actually in the parish when born and the same for Sarah Atkins.

I didn't know about William Curry most have died an infant/child.

Curry seems to get spelled differently quite often in the early census so again I think I would need to track down George's baptism.

Looks like I'll be planning a trip to Leicester records office in June. Is there any parking nearby do you know?

thanks alot

Re :~ Parking at the Records Office Wigston.

They have their own Car Park 12 Spaces including two Disable spaces
Which stands on the corner of Elizabeth Court / Long Street.
150 yards from the Records Office.

If that’s full on street parking further up Elizabeth Court opposite the garages.

Failing that Civic Car Parks Aylestone Lane & Paddock Street
But READ instruction for parking if you plan a long stay
otherwise they put a Parking ticket  on the car if you go over limit. ……
