the little cross after the 'medals approved......' is a reference to the medal roll page NW/2/1829, (also with another cross)

this is the same on both cards

i suspect this maybe the later comment

the cards certainly seemed to be linked, the alternate names on the top and the same latter (i think) medal roll page

ps... he's got two wound stripes on his left sleeve ...he was certainly in action

There are actually three stripes on the wrist of Hobbs, James Henry (see close up) and there seems to be a ribbon on this left shoulder does this signify anything that you know of? Is it a South African or British uniform?


In the next picture Hobbs, James Henry is in a different uniform, no stripes on his left wrist and there are some letter/number on his shoulder.  Does the close-up give any information?

the first uniform ( with the collar badges) is south african

i can't make out the shoulder titles on the secound  ???
