Biker

My Great Uncle F J Gobell Rfmn 1465 12th Londons "The Rangers" is listed on the Gas Light & Coke Company War Memorial.

He died on 1st July 1916 so not sure if he would be in this 1915 journal.

Could you check for me please.

Thank you.

Mark

Hi Biker,
I just come across this thread, whilst searching for Information on my 2x Great grandfather name of Henry C J LARKIN.  He worked for a Gaslight Co in London and had a pension from them.  Could he or his daughter Louisa be mentioned in this book.  I would be very grateful if you could have a look when you have a spare moment!  Thanks in advance and keep up the good work. I'm searching for my great, great grandfather Edward Adams who was a stoker at the Gasworks from 1881 to around WW1.  Evidently, when he died in 1937, age 81, he was one of the oldest surviving Pensioners.  I understand that the Local Studies Library at Stratford have copies of Co Partners from 1911.  I am wondering if you could suggest searching other sources?

Also, Edward was the son of a Wesleyan preacher and I believe he became a Methodist.  I expect that he would have joined a Union.

Many thanks,
Karen.

Although 3 years late I have just seen your post regarding the Gas Light and Coke company 1915 Annual. Both my Grandfather and my uncle worked for them and my uncle Frederick Bird was killed in action on 25th Sep 1915 the first day of the Battle of Loos. He was with the  2nd Btn Rifle Brigade who I believe were that day involved in an action at Bois Grenier. I see in the index which you posted that an F Bird (machine gunner) appears in the roll of honour page 292. I had no idea he was a machine gunner and wonder if the one listed is my Frederick Bird. Can you let me know if there is any other info on him or even a photo. Any information would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
David Bird
