Sorry - mine were Merioneth and Denbighshire - I was one once  ;)

I've had a look on the North Wales BMD but that RD is not up yet  :( I'll keep looking for them though.

Have you checked for a Catherine and Edward on later censuses yet?

I'm not too bad at all on the pronounciations or spellings though  :)

I've had a really good look on the 1851 for Rees (various spellings). I note that on the 1861 he is a farmer of 1500 (acres) living Beddgelert and bo. Beddgelert.
It might be worth going through the three Beddgelert Eds (skim search) for the farm on the 1851. I can't quite make out the name of it - ? cwmdylis or cwmdulais (more likely)

The nearest I've got so far is: HO107/2512/391/3

My god, are we looking for a Catherine and William Roberts?  ???  :P

What I sent you is, in Beddgelert:

Rice Roberts, 40, Farmer
Catherine, 35
Jane, 15

Ellen, 12
Griffith, 10
Rice, 8

Have I completely lost the plot?  ;D  ;D

I was just thinking the same myself Tati, having re-read the thread. There is no definite Rhys/Rees/Rice Roberts identified. I think that I would sort out the marriage first and find out possible parentage before going back beyond 1873.

Added - also check out why he was imprisoned - there are court records I think in Caernarfon and definitely in Ruthin.

I have carefully re-read this thread and am not sure what extra info Tati has given you but I see all sorts of doubtful jumps before 1881 -

What you know, from info above:

Ann Ellen Roberts b. 1873-74 m 1895 - father Rees Roberts, stonemason

probable listing in 1891 - Dwygyfylchi  RG12/4671/27/48
Rees b. 1854, stonemason, b. Llanaelhaearn
Mary b. 1845, b. Penmaenmawr

Also 1881, the same family in 1881 without Rees. Rees is in prison at Llanbeblig - place of birth Penmaenmawr.

So, if you are going to use the census info for 1871 and before, you're looking for a Rees (various spellings)  Roberts, b. either Penmaenmawr or Llanaelhaearn and not Beddgelert.

I'd get the marriage cert now though - can only see one other possible in 1876.

I recall a Caernarvonshire newspaper listing site somewhere - I'll check it out*. It might have something about Rees' imprisonment.
