Hello

I see that you have an interest in MURCH.

I'm interested in a WILLIAM HARRIS MURCH, DD (a dissenting minister).  He seems to have been a minister at the Sheppard's Barton Meeting House in Frome, Somerset in the 1820s.  His father was John Murch 1750-1830, and the family seem to have originated from Plymouth - or at least had connections with that area.

I did put a notice up on the Devon section a few months ago, and somebody replied directing me to a website relating to the Murch family.  The topic comes under "REVD WILLIAM HARRIS MURCH".  I'm sure it will be of interest to you.

Red,
Might be totally the wrong branch, but the area is close.
A few miles within each other I believe.

I have a Mary Murch b 1810
John Murch b 1803
Ann Murch b 1807
Sarah Murch b 1791

All born Honiton Devon

Have no idea on the parents as yet.

Mary Murch was married to Richard Darke (b 1806 Sidmouth d 1844 Honiton)
Sarah Murch never married
John Murch was a widower in 1881 census

I haven't looked much further into them as my area is the Darke family.  But if there is a connection, let me know!

Cheers

Hi Sally

Do your Murches tie in with an Elizabeth Murch who married a James Franklin in Honiton in 1777? James Franklin mentions his brother-in-law (John Murch) in his will of 1826. Could he be your John?

James Franklin & Elizabeth Murch had two children baptised at Honiton - Sarah & Elizabeth.  Both of which died young.  I noticed that you have a Sarah Murch baptised in 1791.  Naming patterns are always worth looking at in families.

Hope this is of interest . . .

As I said, I haven't really looked closely at the MURCH side, as I only found the connection "yesterday' from this info provided on my Darke family query. So I don't know who's who yet apart from Mary.. lol

1861 census for Mary Darke

John Murch, head, widower, age 58, ironmonger copper, tin, zinc and iron plate worker (5 assistants) born Devon Honiton
Sarah Murch, sister, unmarried, age 70, housekeeper born Honiton
Amelia Davey, servant, age 44, house servant born Devon Widworthy
Mary Darke, sister, widow, age 51 born Honiton

RG9 1376
folio 29 page 11
Honiton Devon

I can't for the life of me find the other info that tied them in. But I do recall the Darkes having a 'visitor' I think an Ann Murch so I'm pretty sure this is the same family.

So as to Mary Darke (nee MURCH)
Married Richard Rolle or Rolls Darke 26/3/1834

If I have my great greats correct.  Mary and Richard are my
mother in laws great, great, grandparents.

Will check out the JOHN info once I have digested all those names, see if we have the same families :)
