Yay, I found Ann Murch (Age 44) visiting Mary and Richard in the 1851 census I had filed away. Guess she never married either?

I went back and looked at their births as I found them in the LDS search.  No mention of parents names on any of them.

I did find a William Murch and Sarah Browne marriage at Honiton on Otter, Devon in October 1789.  Haven't got much further than that. Could be the parents seeing as Sarah was born in 1791.

Seeing that Sarah never married and was in the 1861 census aged 70, Im tending to think that this is a different group to your John.

Maybe we are looking at cousins?

Hi

I don't think Murch is a particularly common name, so I wouldn't be supprised to learn that the Honiton Murches all tie in together somewhere along the line.  They seem to have been in Honiton for many years, didn't they?

The John Murch (ironmonger) mentioned on the 1861 census could well have been the son/grandson of the John Murch mentioned in the will of James Franklin in 1826.

IF only we could pin them down!   It just gets so confusing when there are so many with the same first names too!

I might go back and have a good look through the Hugh Wallis  'counties' batches and see who's around.  It would be good to tie them all in together!    The thing I find most confusing, and so I have had to print off a parish map, is all those changes to  place of birth.

I even have one of my rellies family completely change their name (bar one child) from one census to the next.  Something fishy there!

Hope to find something and report back!
