Hi Jan Jan

The answer to your question is yes, if Thomas Armstrong b1849 Calder Bridge /  St Bridgets (alternates on each census).  He married Dinah Stephenson from Ulpha at Whitehaven in 1876

Dinah is my 5th cousin 3 x removed.

Hope this helps

Regards

I've only just started looking at a particular ARMSTRONG family, but because you mention Nichol Forest and LITTLE, I thought I'd post what I have.
The will (written 1881 proved 1884) of John SCOTT of Piperdeanrigg Nichol Forest leaves "the back room of my cottage together with the west half of the Garden adjoining thereto for her life" to Rebecca ARMSTRONG daughter of Ann ARMSTRONG of Thurston Field.
(The other room and East half of the garden went to his niece Barbara LITTLE, daughter of his sister Barbara)
so I got curious about why leave anything to Rebecca at all.
Found Ann ARMSTRONG in 1881 at Thurstonfield, Burgh by Sands, District of Carlisle, as head, unmarried 50 with dtr Rebecca 10 scholar and dtr in law Margaret 29 (all ARMSTRONG, all b Nichol Forest).
The IGI shows Rebecca as christened Mar 1872, no father shown.
Back in 1871 Ann was living at Mosshead aged 40, unmarried, with dtr Mary, dressmaker aged 18, both b NicholForest with her.  Neighbours at Mosshead were an Ann GRAHAM and at Beyond the moss a John & Ann GOODFELLOW with a son Robert, who may or may not be one of the executors to the above John SCOTT's will.

I've not yet followed thru on the LITTLE part of the equation, but also mentioned in the will were John SCOTT's niece Barbara LITTLE and nephew John LITTLE, children of his sister Barbara

PS my umpteen greats Walter TURNBULL was a carpenter at Dykehead
