1901 Derry Census - McDaid, Creggan Road
« on: Saturday 10 June 06 12:23 BST (UK) »
I have only just begun my research of my father's family.   In 1908 William and Rose McDaid, my grandparents, lived on Creggan Road in Derry.   As I believe they married in 1900, they were probably there for the 1901 Census, which would give me so much information.   However, as I understand it, it is only available to view on microfilm - and is not yet online - and I can't travel to Ireland.   Is it possible to purchase a CD or buy an extract of the census?   I would be grateful for any advice as to how to obtain it.   Also, could anybody tell me in which parish Creggan Road would have been?  Thank you.

Hi I may have already poeted this rel=ply on another posting. William and Rose Mc Daid are not listed as living at 67 Creggan Rd.  There are NO Mc Daids listed as living on Creggan rd.

Thanks for your reply.  I do know that Rose Kelly and William McDaid married in Derry in 1900.  My father was born in 1907 and the address given on his birth certificate was 67 Creggan Road.  As they're not in the 1901 Census, presumably they lived elsewhere when they were first married and moved to Creggan Road later.  It would be good to see the 1911 Census.  Thanks again for your information.

More info,
Derry almanac shows Mc Daids living at 67 Creggan rd. in 1905 & still there in 1908 & 1918. Not there in 1903.

Thank you very much for that information.  I'm not familiar with the Derry Almanac.  Is it a directory of trades/professions?  If so, is William McDaid - my grandfather - down as a shoemaker?

1910 Ulster Directory for Londonderry is available online but don't see any boot and shoe makers named McDaid although he could be worked to someone else and then wouldn't be listed in the directory.

The Derrry almanac was a directory of all houses in the city. Unfortunitly it only lists head of household. There is a trades directory portion in it. i will check for your father as a shoemaker on my next visit.
