julie, can you send me an email?  I have a couple files I need to send you.  Also, I found that your line ties in with John MacMillan's line.  He is the one that has the website with the tombstone inscriptions for Dumfriesshire.  The url is http://www.hawk37.demon.co.uk/index.html .  You should check him out.  I have been emailing him, and he is a very nice person.

I have your line back to John Tweedie and Mary Moffett.  The file I am sending you says that it is believed that John may be a son of James Tweedie who married Janet Bell.  If that is the case, that would make you related to kojak and me.  There are a lot of Tweedie researchers working on this one, but no answer definate as of yet.

Email me at * and I will send the files on to you.

Brenda

Hi Brenda
That all sound very exciting!  Will have to get back to you in a week or so, as my computer is playing up.  Think it has a virus, so I won't email y ou directly until I get it sorted.
Will get back to you as soon as I can

How do your BELL tie in?  I also have Bell from Dumfriesshire.

James Tweedie and Dorcas Patillo had a daughter Elizabeth born about 1825.  Elizabeth Tweedie married Robert Watson.  Their daughter, Fanny, was born abotu 1837.  Fanny Watson married James Bell.

James Bell was the illegitimate son of David Bell and Jane Johnstone.  This area is a bit of a mystery.  Jane Johnstone went on to marry someone called Cook and had a family.  James Bell was left in the care of his grandparents.   I believe David Bell was married to a Jane Finlay, and may have been the son of George Bell and Jane Irving.  On the marriage cert of James Bell and Fanny Watson it states that James' father was: DAvid Bell, railway labourer.

Another of Robert WAtson and Elizabeth Tweedie's daughters also married a Bell.  Mary Watson b 1848, married John Bell in 1875 in Hutton.

Have never got to grips with the Bells, there are just so many of them!

Hi Julieanne

Did you get a photo of the headstone at Lochmaben cemetery? I was out there the other day and it is small enough to easily find headstones.

If you haven't a photo, I'd be happy to seek the site out for you.

thanks for the offer, but now think they must have been too poor to have one.
