George Calland (Scoble) death 1851- 1861
« on: Tuesday 13 June 06 15:15 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm hitting a brickwall with the death of George Calland. in 1851 he was at 94, Bond St, Withycombe Rawlwigh. In 1852 he was named in Slater's Directory as a Grocer in Exmouth. By 1861 his wife Jessey is named as head of the family.

Can anybody help me with this one?

Thanks

Brigcs

Hi Brigcs,

I take it Jessey was down as widowed  :P

If the death isn't on FreeBMd, then you can search the complete indexes here:

Have finally found Jessie in 1861 (Jessie C Scoble, whereas she was Jessy Calland/s in 1851). It says she's married... Did she remarry, or where does the Scoble come from?

The Scoble comes from the birth of George in 1820, son of George Calland and Ann Scoble. Over the years either name has recorded which has made research difficult. I now have the Calland family back a good few generations but Ann Scoble is a total brickwall as yet.

Thanks for your help. I'll keep on looking. I'll check Scoble deaths next.
