Distances between towns - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 13 June 06 22:37 BST (UK) »
I am still getting nowhere on my Mc Cormack/ Mc Cabe research and was wondering is Ballyjamesduff anywhere near Crosserlough as Crosserlough is where i've been told my mum was born. Does anyone know of any families with these names in these places  ???

As far as I know the last census that is available is 1901, the 1911 won't be available till 2011.

But I may be wrong.

Sweet 666, the names, McCabe & McCormack are very common in  Co. Cavan., try looking on The Anglo Celt newspaper website, and post a message, or snail mail them, most weeks there are letters from people looking for families,. I live about 4 miles, in old money, from Ballyjamesduff, if you can identify any off your connections i will try and do some enquiries for you, the local bar in any particular area is very usefull, ie order a pint of Guinness,, and ask doe's any one remember a family called, ??? who left and went to, ???, in ???, i guarentee you will get a reply, they enjoy talking to strangers!, as the Irish  adage goe's, There are no strangers in Ireland, just friends who haven't met.

I think my late mum has a cousin still living in Ballyjamesduff.
My grandparents names were Patrick & Kathleen Mc Cormack ( nee Mc Cabe ) they all lived in Ballyjamesduff but came over here to England much later on ( Kilburn i'm told )
Their children : Patrick, Bridget, Mary ( my mum ), Rosaleen, Jimmy, Michael & Eliza ( she died aged just 2 yrs old ).
They all lived in England except Jimmy, Patrick & Michael.
My nan had a brother named Jamesy/ Jimmy Mc Cabe who owned a farm in Ballyjamesduff.
My grandad had brother's ; Jimmy, Micky, Hughie, Phil & Joe Mc Cormack. Joe Mc Cormack lived in Killatoher Crosserlough while Jimmy lived in Mullingar Co. West Meath

You might find this Parish Locator useful - it doesn't cover all parishes yet but I still find it invaluable:
