Death Search Query
« on: Thursday 15 June 06 20:53 BST (UK) »
How would I go about tracing my great grandmothers death?  I have searched and searched the BMD's (perhaps I am missing it somehow though).

Her name is Emily Louisa (this is where it gets complicated and I am a bit unsure of her surname at time of death).

Her maiden name was Long, she married H Lane, he died and then she was with my grandfather T Read.  I am unsure if they ever actually married, I have searched for a record of marriage but again I have turned up nothing.

The family moved to Dogelly area, where Emily Louisa Read/ nee Lane/ nee Long died sometime between 1925 and 1935.

Thomas Read was gamekeeper on the Cadair Idris Estate.

Emily Louisa was born c1873 Hucclecote Gloucestershire (to Thomas and Martha)

The family unit would have consisted of:
Emily Louisa
Thomas Horace Read
Edith Emily Lane  born 1903 Glous  daur to Emily
Gilbert Read bn 1913 (son of Emily and Thomas)
Francis Read bn 1915 (daur of Emily and Thomas)
Guy Gordon Read bn1925 Streatham (son of Thomas and Edith)
Douglas Read bnc1927 (son of Thomas and Edith)
Cecil Read bnc 1930 (son of Thomas and Edith)

As Emily Louisa got sicker (cancer) Edith took on the household and the wifely duties in all respects with Thomas and assumed the name Read.  (We only recently found out this "element" plus another child of Thomas and Ediths' born 1923 that Edith was made to give up for adoption).

If anyone could advise me how to go about finding Emily Louisas' death and whereabouts, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks (and sorry for such a longwinded tale)

Vicky

Have you tried the North Wales BMD site:

Unfortunately Dolgellau deaths aren't on North Wales BMD (all marriages and births up to 1950 are there - so the site may well be of interest to you)

Contact details for the registrar at Dolgellau can be found on this Rootschat page

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,33514.0.html

Dylan Jones, the registrar, is an extremely helpful man. If you e-mail him he will usually let you know  the details he has in his register without making a charge or expecting you to pay for a copy certificate.
