I wholehearted welcome the move, in fact I wish it was made illegal to post using a false email address.
That is the only way that scams and spam will be stopped.
Cheers

I wish it was made illegal to post using a false email address.

Nobody has suggested that false email addresses should be used, just that the correct ones shouldn't be displayed.  There is no reason why messages couldn't be forwarded to the email address without it being blatantly advertised on the website, after all Rootschat can do it, why not Ancestry?

Having used Mailwasher in the past, why go to the trouble of deleting messages in one programme only to open the remainder in another.  You still have to check each email that comes in and decide whether you want to keep it or delete it. ??? ???  Yes you can set up message rules to auto delete mail that you believe is spam, but I haven't come across an email programme which can't do the same.

Hi MaryA

I find Mailwasher a useful 'gobetween'.  I can delete junk mail before it reaches my mail program.  As you say, you can configure the program to receive friendly emails from trusted sources and ban repeated spammers.

It means I can delete junk emails without having to read them, which is quite useful in my opinion.

Surely Ancestry have no right to display private details? Have they previously given assurances that these details would be kept private?  Maybe someone - or even lots of people - will sue - oh gosh my mother was right, I should have been a lawyer!  :o

Has anyone tried to change their details? I joined ancestry using my main address, which I always use when purchasing. I wanted to swop to another email which I use just for this sort of thing. I have logged in several times since receiving this email and got as far as filling in the new email address. When I click on submit all I get is an error message. I'm getting fed up of trying!
