1891 look up request
« on: Sunday 24 October 04 20:17 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Looking in the 1891 census for,

George Brown Widower (Dairyman/Greengrocer)
Edith  Brown aged 2/3
Harriet Ann Brown aged 6 month - 1 year

They were in Barrrow Common, Dundry in 1890 when Harriet was born but can not find them at that address in 1891.

Thanks  :)
Douglas, Brown, Entwistle, Reed, Parsons, Copperwaite, Farrow, Barnes, Cowx, McCallum, Stobbart, Bowsell, Iredale, Marshall.

Excellent thank you very much!  :D

I think that is deffinatley my Harriet living with her fathers mother and sister. Interesting and very sad his sister is also widowed? She is listed as Brown and a Daughter of Ann Brown which is a bit confusing if she was married?? Not sure waht is going on there!

I guess poor old George had to leave his kids to earn his living! Thank you for finding him too. I had the 1881 census so I new his family's names and guessed he might have left the kids with them when his wife (also callled Harriet Ann Brown) died 2 weeks after the birth of little Harriet. I wonder what happened to poor little Edith!

The post on the general somerset page 'can you identify this pot?' is about a piece of pottery marking Harriets Birth if you are interested.

Pleased to be of some help :)

I saw the pot - what a fabulous thing to have! And as for Edith, I have no idea, as she was definitely there in 1901. Just a thought but do you have her birth certificate? I was wondering whether she could be the child of wife no 2 by a previous relationship?

I know George remarried and I have him on 1901 with 2nd Wife Alice and kids. (the 2 elder being from 2nd marriage) Edith was born before Harriet and I know Harriet's mother died after having her so I presume she was from first marriage but don't have birth cert. May pursue that one.

Thanks for your help.
