Look Up parish records Jersey

Hi

If anyone has access to the parish records for Jersey, I would be grateful if they could try and trace Samuel Parks (Parkes)  who is listed in the 1851 census as having been born in Jersey c 1812. I do not have any details of his parents.

He married Eleanor Evans 5 April 1835 at St Mary's, Whitechapel, London and lived the rest of his life in the London area. I have found the familt in the 1841 census. He died 28 January 1856 Bow Common, Stepney, Middlesex, England. Samuel was a chemist/optician.

I do not know whether he came to London with his parents but think he probably came on his own for work reasons.

Hi Carawa -

The only likely record I could find around this date is a baptism register entry:

St Brelade parish church, Jersey
Samuel Parkes bap. 29.1.1812  born 10.12.1811 
son of William Parkes and Esther Longueville.

I also found his parents' marriage, in St Helier, Jersey -
William Parkes and Esther Longueville  6.3.1805  (both of St Helier).

Thanks for looking. I had been told about this Samuel before and was very hopeful that it was ours but the person who told me said that Samuel (son of William and Esther) married and lived in Jersey whereas my Samuel married in london in the 1830's and had all his family there.

Hmm... it's odd that this appears to be the only Samuel Parkes we can find born in Jersey around the right time  - and does not seem to be in Jersey in the 1841 census.  I wonder where he went?  Perhaps he needs checking out again?

Does your Samuel's marriage certificate (if after 1837) or church register give his father's name?

Thanks for replying. Samuel Parkes and Eleanor Evans married in 1835. A researcher looked up the records at St mary Whitechapel, Middlesex for me. As the microfilm of the register was so faint  she was given special permission to look at the original register however that too was in very poor condition. One of the witnesses appears to have been Eleanor's father but the other is a person we do not know. There is no mention of Samuel's parents.

I cannot find the information that Colin Wilton-Davies gave me so do not know where he gor it from. He found a sister and another couple of generations.
