John,

living next door to the Briggs in 1891 are Aaron and Elizabeth Appleyard. Aaron was born at Castleford in 1818. Elizabeth gives Castleford as her birthplace in 1901.

If it was Sarah Appleyard that William Swales married this could be Elizabeth's uncle.... or it could be sheer coincidence.
