Christopher Morland - LEYBURN - pre 1700
« on: Sunday 24 October 04 22:19 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can trace Christopher Morland of Leyburn, His son Tillham Morland was baptisd in Wensley on   April 6 1703 - batism record shows father  "Christopher Morland of Leyburn".
I suspect (but so far no definite proof) that this Tillham Morland was the same "Tillam Morland" who is recorded in St James, Piccadilly, London in April 1734 - married to Elizabeth Smith (and who was my Great, great, great, great, great grandfather....)

Hi Croz

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes

It could wrll be the same one - here are some more details from IGI

Tilham - bapt Wensley April 6TH 1703
had a brother  Christopher bapt. 12 May 1706 (died 18 July 1713)

Could their father be father be :

Christopher Morland married to Margaret Russell
18th October 1684

seems a long time - unless he was married twice......

I guess anything's possible ...I hadn't made any progress as I'm really short of info on this one ...so all help and suggestions are very welcome...I'm going back through the following line ...

Ann Selina Morland christened 4 June 1820, died March 1862 (my g-g grandmother). Daughter of John Morland born 17 Jul 1775 in London, died July 1845, John Morland was in turn the son of John Morland born 16 Sept 1739, Died 1831 (Cabinet maker and upholsterer of Princes Street Soho) .....John Morland's father was Tillam Morland "of St James Piccadilly, London" who was certainly married to Elizabeth Smith on 18 April 1734 at St James Westminster. As Tillam is an uncommon name - I assume - but am not certain - that this might be the same TilHam Morland baptised in Wensley on April 6 1703...whose father was, I believe, Christopher Morland of Leyburn. That's about all I have - so far ......

Hi Croz

Records for Leyburn which was formerly part of Wensley are held at North Yorkshire County Record Office in Northallerton - tel 01609 777585.  The records they have for that area go back to 1538.

Best wishes
