Don't worry about the copy - I'll download it and blow it up. I'll let you know what I think.

It certainly doesn't look like Orchard though  :-\

Looked at my OS map and found it!
Pertersburn
When you know what it is it is easy to spot.
It is in the area of 'Orchard' so he could have easily moved to Orchard as a Servant in 1854.
Also he is a consistant age, place of birth and occupation - with a Robert Armstrong in the 1841 Census from 'Barracrofts Outhouse' Canonbie that I have and can get no further with who I think is a contender.

There is another Robert Armstrong in the area of the right age etc but he is a Stone Mason, His mother was Margaret Scoone and he died in 1861 of consumption. I have ruled him out as he isn't a sevant and he is with his family on all the census's. Another one was born in 1832 at Torcoon - again he is not the one. He emigrated.

Any more suggestions for finding this ones parents would be gratefully recieved as I can find no other Robert Armstrong born in 1830/31 around Canonbie that seems to fit the bill.

Thanks for all your help.

Judy

Have you looked at the 15 Jan 1832 bpt., Canonbie: Robert Armstrong, parents John Armstrong and Margaret Scoon.

GRO Ref -  814-000003

or was he the one who emigrated. There's also one in Kirkcolm (1832) and one Ewes (1828)

Thanks for the information. Yes the Robert Armstrong with the right date of birth & Margaret Scoon as mother was the stone mason I had discounted as he is with his parents in the Census's until his death in 1861

There is a Robert A born in Castleton in 1830 which is the right age group. I know it is Roxburgh but it is right on the border & I am wondering if one of his parents were from around Canonbie.

If I can find nothing else I may have to send for the OPR and see if it gives any information. Gets expensive if it is wrong.

Thanks for your help
