Charles Jeremiah Wilkinson

I am looking for information on Charles Jeremiah Wilkinson

He was born in 1836 in Chivers Coton Warwickshire and Married Amelia Clode of Sidbury Devon in about 1860. The 1871 census lists them as  living in the St Margarets area of Leicester.  Charles Wilkinson is listed as a shoe manufacturer.
The factory was located in St Margarets Leicester.

Any information on  Amelia Clode and Charles Wilkinson including the Shoe Manufacturing business in Leicester and any relatives of the two will be very much appreciated!

Hi Shaz

Thanks for your efforts in searching the Parents of Charles Wilkinson.  Now I need to know if he had any Children.
1881 Census shows that he and Amelia had a boy called Gerald Rogers aged 3yrs living with them in Leicester. He was born in Marylebone London in 1878 and was still living with the Wilkinsons at the time of the 1901 Census.
Amelia had moved to Marylebone from Devon ( as the 1861 Census shows )  I wonder if he could have been her child from a first marriage.

Thanks for the link to the historical directories.
I have trawled through there and found the Wilkinson Boot and Shoe Manufacturing Factory was in Baggrave Street Leicester at the turn of the last century.

Now I need to find someone who remembers working there.

Amelia would have been about 40 at the time of his birth and you think she had already been married to Charles for 16 years by then?

Surely Isabel, Amelia's sister who appears with Gerald on all censuses, is a more likely mother?

Have you looked for the marriage of Charles and Amelia on the full indexes?

I think Laura is another sister - daughter of Isaac.  Do you have the CLODEs on other censuses?

Perhaps she died later, will have a look.

According to 1841 Sidbury Devon Census, Amelia was the youngest daughter of James Clode b1775 and Elizabeth Irish 1773.  However being born in 1835 would have made Elizabeth about 60+ yrs at the time.
It is more possible that she may have been the daughter of Issac Clode b1813 and staying with her grandparents at the time of the census.

But I think I have solved the mystery about Amelia and the son Gerald Rogers as she appears on the 1871 Census as Amelia Rogers ( although I cannot confirm this as my subscription to Ancestry has expired )
I figure that Amelia remarried to Charles Wilkinson shortly afterwards and moved with her son Gerald Rogers to Leicester with Charles.
Isabel Clode was the youngest daughter of Issac Clode ( by some 20 years ) and moved to Leicester from Sidbury to work at this shoe factory and appears living with Amelia and Charles on subsequent censuses.
My Gt. Grandfather Edgar Clode also moved to Leicester and I assume it was to work at his aunt Amelia's shoe factory.
Laura Caroline Clode was the sister of Edgar Clode and moved back to Sidbury and married a William Snow.

I am not sure about Laura Clode and Richard Rogers ?
