No father listed - help?????

I an trying to trace the parents of my 2 x great grandmother, Jennet Davies, born 1866 in Maesteg area. I located a birth certificate for a younger brother Gwilym born 1881. This gave their parents as William Davies and Margaret Davies formerly Stradling.

I found a marriage certificate in 1857 for a Margaret Stradling and a William David - son of Evan David.
But there is no father listed for Margaret. Where do I go next.
With a name like Stradling I thought this line would be easier than my usual Jones, Evans, Williams, Thomas and Griffiths efforts!!!

Do you know how old Margaret was at marriage as i have a few Margaret Stradling's listed on the baptisms index. If i can help let me know.

Actually ignore that for margaret as they are all 1700s! DUH!!!

I would suggest baptism registers but the one i have is pre 1837 so it does not seem to be of much help. I have checked the smaller registers i have too and i cant find Margaret. Have you asked Maesteg if they have a birth record for Margaret post 1837??

The absence of  a father's name from a full birth certificate is about always a sign that the mother was unmarried at the time of the birth. Not a very rare occurrence even back then.

what's Margaret's age on the certificate? There aren't that many Margaret Stradlings on the Glamorgan census. One in particular looks good:-

no husband in sight, so who was John's father as this is before his birth?

Margaret was 42 in 1881 census so would be born around 1839 - probably in the Maesteg area

I am not having any luck with Margaret but if the above details are correct i have pm'd you info of possible parents marriage at Coity. Its the only possible match but if its not them let me know and i will look again.
