fred may not have been a CSM when the war started,he could have been time served just before the war and re--enlisted on the outbreak,so he could be a sapper,you dont get yor original rank back when you re-enlist,mack

this may or may not be of any use but according to his service number, he was a member of the West Riding Field Coy , whether that is the same as 455th, i really don't know
