Death notice for Nicholas EYRE
« on: Monday 19 June 06 10:56 BST (UK) »
I am in possession of a death notice for Nicholas Eyre, born Lanivet, Cornwall, England in 1847, who died in Woodstock 1st February, 1927.

Fathers name, Henry:  Mothers name Ann nee Thomas.

According to the death notice the informant was J.J.Farrell, his son-in-law.

I have no idea when he arrived in Canada, who he married or how many children he had.

I would appreciate any information that may throw some light onto those unknowns.

The last trace of Nicholas Eyre was on the 1861 Cornwall census. He was about 14 years old then.

He may well have travelled to New York or California with a sister or brother and lived there before Canada became an attraction for him.

According to his death notice, he was employed in Canada, probably Woodstock, as a master mechanic for five years.

He is supposed to be buried in Woodstock.

I'm sorry that I can't provide any other information that may assist.

Thanks for the reply, Karen.

The information that you posted is what I already have.

It indicates to me that he was under the care of his physician since about 1923, and I can assume that his wife was already deceased at that time, but the notice does state "married".

It also indicates that he may have only lived in Canada for 5 years.

The only lead that I can see is his son-in-law, J.J. Farrell. If Farrell can be linked to Eyre in marriage records, it may lead back to Nicholas.

I feel that he was married in either the USA or Canada.

Well, in the 1910 US Census, Spokane Washington there is a Nicholas Eyre who is head, born England, age 62, wife is Eliza, but there is John Ferrel boarding with him and has a spouse named Margaret.

Nicholas says he's Naturalized and came in 1873

John Ferrell says born in Canada, 27 years old

Do you have access to the 1910?

There is a Nicholas Eyre in the 1871 Census, St. Anne Limehouse, London, England living as a border.  He's 24 years and there is also a Jacob Thos. Eyre bording there as well.  Could he be yours?

Karen,
You found him. Thank you.
Jacob Thomas Eyre is his brother.

I don't currently have access to the 1910 but I guess I can find it.

Karen, that 1910 census entry that you have found, is that for a Nickolas B Eyre of Spokane?

He definitely doesn't have a middle name and there is no "K" in his given name.

Yes, it's the Spokane one.  Looking at the original 1910 is looks to me like Nicholas and this one is also a blacksmith.
