Sarah Spencer born c1807 Llandaff
« on: Monday 19 June 06 14:24 BST (UK) »
LDS site is down for maintencance today, so I am having trouble looking for Sarah's origins.

According to the 1881 census she was born in Landaff, Glamorgan.  In 1881 she is listed as unmarried and 74 and living in Somerset.  Can anyone find a likley candidate on an early Glamorgan census.

Thanks
Siouxzie

oh thanks Rhys,
That's looking good for them isn't it, what with the head of the family and his mother being born Somerset.  That might explain what she's doing there in 1881.

Gives me something to work with anyway - thank you for your time

Wonderful Rhys,
So that's how she moved to Allerton - a family member is living there.  My interest in Sarah is because in 1881 on the census she has my relative Bessie Waters living with her and she is listed as cousin and companion.  I am hoping if I can find how she is connected to Bessie, it might help with finding out about Bessie's parents more.  Bessies mother is Frances Findon and her father Walter Waters and I'd love to know which she is connected to, one of Bessies brothers was named Spencer Waters, obviously after this Spencer line of the family.  Both Frances and Walter hail from the Andover area of Hanmpshire though, so no clues there as to how and to whom the Spencers are connected.

Thank you for all the look ups

You are a star

Now it's up to me to find out how all these families are related - you've just thrown Mapstone into the mix for me.

Sarah Spencer is Elizabeth Mapstone's niece and Bessie Waters is Sarah Spencer's cousin.

At least I seem to be able to use the iGI again now, not that it is giving me anything at the moment.

Hi there

Not sure whether this will help but there is a web site for the Mapstone family, it  is

http://hometown.aol.co.uk/stanmapstone/myhomepage/famtree.html

Quite a lot of my husbands family from the villages around Somerset settled in Wales. We have Spencer probably from the Wedmore area which is not too far from Weare. but I have only gone back as John Spencer 1860. I will made a note and see what I can find
