Where in Sheffield?

On the reg for  a marriage in 1947 I have the district as Rother V. Does anyone know where this is exactly?I am also trying to trace the whereabouts of Earnest and Myfanwy Booth, living in Sheffield 1935 - 1950 approx. Any ideas? Thanks.

There is information about Rother Valley Registration District here: http://www.fhsc.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/rother%20valley.html. It is more Rotherham than Sheffield.

Earnest BOOTH might be found in a directory. Do you know his occupation? Also, since they were in Sheffield in living memory (of older people at least) you could try posting a query at http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk in the 'history and ex-pats' section (you would have to register). Or, you could consider contacting the editor of the weekly 'contact' column in the Star newspaper. The last I heard John Highfield was the editor 'john dot highfield at sheffieldnewspapers dot co dot uk' (this column often has family history queries).

Thank you Hugh for your advice. The Rother ref was from the marriage of Myfanwys daughter (from an earlier marriage). Her daughter and husband were both from Wales but they got married here - must have been the nearest they could get to Sheffield at the time.

Are we talking about Welsh Wales or the village of Wales, a couple of Km east of the Rother ?!

Definitely Welsh Wales! Didn't know there was a Wales in England!!
