Crockfords Clerical Directory look up?
« on: Friday 23 June 06 12:33 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have a subscription to Crockfords directory? I am looking for information on John Marratt Taylor 1820-1911 born in Sunninghill Berks to a John Taylor. I know from his Cambridge Uni record and census info that he was a curate then vicar. Any available information from Crockfords might give me more info on his father. Anyone able to help??? Thanks JK

Hello JK, I presume you are talking about the Crockfords on-line edition.  I think you will find that this does not cover the period you are seeking.

Do you have a library nearby, some of the larger libraries have older copies (they are published yearly I beleive) or try your local records office.

Having said all that I just found that Crocfords can be searched on the Cambridgeshire Library Service website but you need to be a library member - if you get no response here see if someone on the Cambs. board can help - here is the link

Thanks Suey,
I will try the Cambridgeshire board but if not Ipswich is not far to go try the library. Thanks for the advice. JK

JK,
Will look this up in the University's oldest Crockfords for you tomorrow - it will probably only tell you where he was educated and when he was deaconed and priested together with the names of the places he served.
