BMDs for 1910s and 1920s
« on: Friday 23 June 06 17:08 BST (UK) »
Why am I having so much trouble trying to track down relatives born or married in the 1920s or 1930s?

Does anyone know of a site which will help please?

Thanks

Thanks a lot Tanja, I'll give it a go but it will be a slow process as I don't know which years I'm searching!

Thanks also for the welcome

Hi Christine
Welcome to rootschat.

What counties are you looking to find these people in?  Some regions (a few) have online search of BMD indexes.  If you are lucky it can save a lot of ploughing through GRO lists.

Hi Christine

The other alternative is to pay-per-view with the Family Relatives site.

This is fully searchable between 1866 & 1920, which is especially useful for Q3 1911 births onwards, where mother's maiden name can be included on your search.

once you get into the swing of trawling through the pages of the indexes (currently free on Ancestry) it doesnt take as long as you think. Or (I notice you are in the South East) you can go and look through the very same pages manually at the FRC in Islington London.

Whilst they are free on Ancestry, though, that is a better option.  However, compared with paying for, say 1837onine, sometimes a day return train fare is cheaper than lots and lots of credits on a website - and a whole lot more fun too, plus access to cenususes at the same place at no charge.

Thanks, Liz

I think I'll keep on trawling!  I think my computer is on a bit of a go-slow and only having dial-up doesn't help!

Hi Christine

Why not post the details of who you are looking for.  Maybe between us we can track them down.
