The Salvation Army - some records may be with a local Army centre.
So if you know when and where you might be able to pop in or phone and ask.

Or... at the Army's UK Territorial HQ at 101 Queen Victoria Street, London, EC4P 4EP or the International Heritage Centre at 117-121 Judd Street, London WC1N 9NN.

The army keeps registers of the dedication of children (similar to baptism), marriages, burials, the swearing in of soldiers and the commissioning of officers.
The Army yearbook is published annually (since 1906) and includes information on officers.

A very few surviving records of fostering and adoption are held at the Army Social Services HQ at 105-109 Judd Street London, WC1H 9TS.

You should be able to get phone numbers for all addresses

Hi Louisa,
Try emailing heritage[AT]salvationarmy.org.uk, i had a relative who i thought was in a Salvation Army rescue center in 1891 but it was unclear in the census. I found this email address from the Salvation Army web site and sent a query to confirm if this was a Salvation Army building. A very helpfuly man called Major Kevin Pooley return my email very quickly, not only did he confirm that it was, but he also found the entry statment book for the center that provided details how she came to be there. He very kindly transcribe this and sent me a copy.

Richard
