I am trying to trace the descendants of William Francis born c1856,a Master Carpenter, who was living at 17 High Street Ingatestone in 1901. At that time he was widowed for a second time. Children William J (born c1876), Gordon (born c1886) Kate Eliza (born c1888). Kate we know about, but cannot find anything about her brothers/half brothers?) William junior was also a Carpenter. The family business was still extant in the early 1930s.

This seems very interesting as My Mother in Law, Kate Eliza Tedder nee Francis had a brother Gordon. Father William. Also half brother William, and one or more step siblings.
William senior is registered on the 1891 census as being born at Bacton.

Any further details re Gordon's children would be appreciated

Iam now fairly certain that we are talking about the same William Francis, born at Bacton Suffolk in c1856. 2nd (?)wife Martha, also from Bacton. Son William John living at 21 High Street Ingatestone (census 1891) also a step daughter and three other children. I suspect that William John might be son of first wife. Gordon James , Kate Eliza & Gertrude being the 3 by Martha. He married a third time somewhen shortly after 1901 to a Mrs Beadle.

Kate Eliza is my wife's Mother (dead some 30 years ago) - we know nothing about any cousins. We are told that Gordon had a son also called Gordon and he in his turn is believed to have three sons who are perhaps in their mid 50s.

Whilst you quote Chelmsford as Gordon James birthplace my copy of the 1891 census says Ingatestone, but no doubt Chelmsford was where the Registrar office was.

It appears that William jnr married Agnes ( from Ryde I of W) date unknown - before 1901, after 1891).

if you can suggest any sources that can I get into for 20th Century details, please let me know

James
