Looking for Sandilands family, Fife
« on: Sunday 25 June 06 12:50 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on the Sandilands family.
I believe my great grandfather was a coal miner from the Cowdenbeath area.
Sandilands from Cowdenbeath, Fife.

Hello Graa

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Could you possibly give more details of your grt grandfather - birth date, marriage, children.

I had a quick look on the Scotlands People website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and found 12 Sandilands in Fife in the 1881 (census picked at random). They are all resident in Dunfermline - 9 of whom are living at 16 Reid Street and the remaining 3 are living at 22 1/2 Priory Lane. Neither families have coal miners amongst them, although there is an 'engine turner'.

There's really not much point my looking any further until I have more information from you. I promise to do my best then  :)

Hello Gadget,     :)
Thanks for the info. I am visiting my mother tomorrow evening and should be able to get more precise details from an old birthday book.
Also I believe she has some photographs. I meant to get all this together before I started my quest, but having come across RootsChat at the weekend, I couldn't resist trying my luck.

I will try to get as much info as possible from my mother, who knows there may be a link with your search.

Hi Graa,

My husband's grandmother was a Sandilands - but her family all appear to be from Dunfermline & are not Coal Miners.  She did marry into a family that came from the Kelty/Beath/Cowdenbeath area who were Coal Miners though.

Hi Wendy,

There's another rootschatter researching Sandilands from Abernethy. I've found a number of gravestones from Abernethy Graveyard, and have posted them here:

You never know!

Best wishes, Jimmijam
