Hi Maysie,
I agree with Pauline that you really need to invest in a marriage certificate to find John's details. You may not be interested in him particularly but who he was and what he was likely to be doing in 1901 is relevant to Harriet.

The only John Pike born to a Joseph and Sarah and living in Notts I can see is this one -

1881
RG11 3346 4 73
118 Snenton Road
Joseph Pike head 37 tobacconist Dublin
Sarah J wife 34 Nottingham
John son 15 Dublin
Edward W son 13 Dublin
Joseph J son 11 Nottingham
Henry Pike son 9 Nottingham
Albert Pike son 7 Nottingham
Ellen A dau 1 Nottingham

In both 1891, and 1901, Sarah and the younger children are still in the Nottingham area (she is listed as married) but Joseph and John seem to be missing. If this is your John then there may be a possibility that he and Harriet are out of the country and travelling with his work, given the Irish connection.

Joseph Pike married Sarah Jane Wright at Nottingham St Mary 06/03/1865. So it appears that Sarah travelled to Ireland with him and had her first two children there before returning to Notts.

You seem to be stuck now without a marriage cert. to confirm John's age and his father's details.

All the best, Heather

I've had a quick look at the GRO death indexes (which you can search yourself for free, just shout up if you don't know how!) and the only John Pike I can see dying in Notts 1921 is this one

Sep 1921 Nottingham 7b 303
John Pike age 56

As you can see, the age tallies with that 1881 census. However you need to back this theory up with hard evidence :)

Thank you all.

Heather, I have the info on John Pike's death date, I also got it from cwgc which tells me his parents, Joseph and Sarah, his wife, Harriet and address in 1921, also his age, 56, was a Lance Corporal in Leicestshire reg and is buried in Nottingham General Cemetery.

The Irish connection is very interesting, maybe that is why Harriet can't be found 1901!

Thanks for now, I shall have to have a re-think!

Maysie
