Thanks for all your help - will have another look at the compatibility thing again and may try the Active viewer again.
Did get to see the record I wanted to see though in spite of all the problems

Here is an image of my viewer in SP. The icons are above the image as I said.
I have marked the Download icon with a D and the Print icon with a P

Could you do a Print Screen - load it into a graphics package or even Word, edit out personal details and put up here.

I'm perplexed  ???

What browser are you using - IE or Firefox or something else?
Check your browser settings.
Check the SP help page.

If you go to the Help and other resources page on SP and click on Technical issues re viewing images, you should get this screen:

Another though is to right click on the image and do a save as

I use Java Applet as my download method - it's not dangerous !!!

You (or at least I) don't get any Save or other icons with Direct Download so that's probably why churchmouse is lost here. Right click on DD doesn't let you save either, I find.

I use all three -  ActiveX, Java and Direct Download - depending on how the viewers are behaving on any particular day  :( but I prefer ActiveX. Sometimes, but not always, if you switch from Direct Download to ActiveX, Update Details and then try again with ActiveX it will work - no, even as an so-called IT professional, I have no idea why ...  It is probably better for churchmouse to switch to Java, which does works all the time but remember it does take forever to download the viewer (one time only) in the first place when you are setting up, you just have to wait.

Oh, that's great! Don't think there is anything so frustrating as those little Red X's in a square, just when you KNOW you have found who you're looking for ..   ;D
