Thomas Negus married twice: first to Mary Foskett (8 Sep 1742) in Husborne Crawley; second to Susannah Foster. He named his son by Mary (chr 16 Oct 1743 in Ridgemont) after his father James.)
James Negus/Niggots is the first Negus to appear in Ridgemont. He may be the son of Aaron Negus who was christened in Leighton Buzzard 10 Jul 1694. The only other James in the IGI who was christened in Bedford between 1682 to 1702 was James christened 24 Feb 1692 in Luton. A James was married in Luton in 1717 and again 1726.
James Negus was buried in Ridgemont 5 Nov 1773.
Other than the christening, I have found no record of an Aaron Negus.
Mary Newbery, wife of James, was the daughter of Thomas Newbery and Elizabeth Reade (mar 26 Dec 1688 in Eversholt.) She was chr 14 Feb 1696 in Eversholt.
Mary Newbery, wife of James, was buried 21 Apr 1765 in Ridgemont.
A Family tree on Ancestry.com says Thomas Newbury was the son of Thomas Newbury and Lucy, who were buried in Husborne Crawley and 12 Mar 1688/9 17 Jan 1678/9, but offers no proof.
Thomas and Lucy christened children in 1664 and 1668 in Husborne Crawley, but I have not found their marriage or the christening of the younger Thomas.
It's plausible, but I would like to see more evidence.
Ancestry.com says Elizabeth Reade who married Thomas Newbery, is the Elizabeth daughter of Richard who was christened in Clophill 25 Apr 1667. There is a long of Richard Reades going back to the sixteenth century in Clophill. A Richard Reade married Joan Mouse in Husborne Crawley in 1680. He might have been Richard brother of Elizabeth, but I have seen nothing to prove it.
