OK, dumb question time! I've seen lots of references to the GRO index. How do you access it?

There are various online methods of getting at the GRO index.  The free one is FreeBMD, which is getting more complete all the time and is as accurate as anything out there.  There's 1837online - pay per view; complete but not indexed.  The various counties have free online indexes, incomplete. 
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.
