Masons & Eastern Star

Hi

I always knew that my grandparents were in the Masons and understood my gran was in the Eastern Star.  I found certificates given to both of them and both certs are Eastern Star.  I always thought the Eastern Star was the female section of the Masons.  Was I wrong?

I have googled and have found this site that will throw some light on who can join the Eastern Star organisation

part of the text states that "..........men who are masons and women with specific masonic affiliation may be members............"
